Pretzel Dogs

These are a MALL CLASSIC and now you can make them at home too! Follow my simple recipe and enjoy with a side of nacho cheese. They will bring a smile to anyones face that tries them!

Pretzel Dogs

Whip up these mall-favorites right from your home. These are seriously so addicting and are a perfect addition to any event.

Equipment

  • stand mixer with dough hook recommended
  • greased and lined parchment-lined baking sheet

Ingredients
  

  • 8 hotdogs
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter melted and cooled
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • rock salt for sprinkling
  • 1 150z can nacho cheese (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Start off by warming the milk in the microwave just so it is lukewarm. Stir in your yeast and let it blossom for 10-15 minutes without touching it.
  • While waiting, warm your oven to the lowest setting then turn off as soon as it is up to heat.
  • In the stand mixer, combine your melted butter, brown sugar, salt and yeast mixture. Gradually add in your flour. Mix for 10 minutes. The dough should be sticky to touch but not sticking to your fingers. Knead until dough becomes elastic. Add more flour if needed but only 1/4 cup at a time.
  • Once dough has a good elastic texture with a little bit of stick left, place back in your stand mixer bowl. Cover it with a damp kitchen towel and place in the warm oven for an hour or until dough doubles in size.
  • Preheat oven to 435 degrees. Then prep a baking sheet with parchment paper and grease it. Stretch the dough into 2 long logs around 3/4 in thick. Divide each log into 4. Evenly stretch the dough onto the hotdogs and twist it on evenly. When I did this, I literally twisted the dough-covered hotdog as I was wrapping it.
  • In a glass bowl, warm your water so it is lukewarm then stir in the baking soda.
  • Brush or dip the baking soda and water mix onto each hotdog. Bake for about 15-20 minutes. They should be golden and not doughy to the touch.
  • Melt your butter and brush the tops of the hot dogs with it. Sprinkle the rock salt on.
  • Microwave your nacho cheese and enjoy this delicious snack.
